Overview

Nothing grips you quite like a poster film full of facts, and this one is chock-full of them. A forerunner to the British Standard Kite Mark, the National Mark was a marketing scheme underpinned by the Empire Marketing Board and presented as a quality standard. In 1931 an astonishing amount of produce was sold under the scheme, as consumers flocked to buy National Mark produce. Eggs, tomatoes, beef, strawberries, plums, honey and bottled fruit and veg all came under the scheme, which was branded as the "produce of England and Wales". The National Mark allowed for orderly marketing and, as the film extolls, stood for progress and prosperity.
