Blackburn Rovers V. West Bromwich 1898
A little piece of football history from the people's game: possibly the earliest surviving game on film
Overview
Take your place in the stands for what might be the earliest surviving football match on film. Welsh-based filmmaker Arthur Cheetham had been experimenting with film since January 1898 and on the 24th September of that year set his camera up behind the goal at Blackburn’s 4-1 defeat of the Baggies at Ewood Park.
