British Sporting Personalities: Peter May

Surrey and England cricketer Peter May's life on and off the field - from batting in Ashes tests to his wedding day.

Biopic 1962 9 mins Silent

Overview

A filmic portrait of Surrey and England cricketer Peter May - insurance broker in the city, celebrated sportsman and family man. This jauntily narrated profile sees May batting at the Oval in 1953, on the tour with the MCC in 1954/55 and facing the touring Australian team in 1956. Off the field, the weddings of May and England teammate Colin Cowdrey feature many familiar faces from the cricketing world.

This is one of a series of ten films about contemporary sporting personalities, produced by the Central Office of Information (COI) and sponsored by the Colonial Office, Commonwealth Relations Office and Foreign Office.
