Sevenoaks Cine Society puts on the glitz at its annual dinner dance - with fifties fashions, waltzing and silly games involving eggs and spoons

Overview
Sevenoaks Cine Society's film record of its annual black-tie events begins on New Year's Eve 1954 with members, in their party best, dining, dancing and playing various games involving eggs, spoons and reversed binoculars. Colour footage follows which shows further formal Society get-togethers with more dancing, whirling fashions, prize-giving and lots of meeting and greeting. At one point several women in party frocks can be seen dancing the Hokey Cokey.
The Sevenoaks Cine Society made a number of highly proficient amateur films dating from the 1930s to the 1960s - with subjects ranging from local events and activities to light-hearted films of themselves enjoying various annual dinner-dances as in this film. They also produced a series of amateur dramas using interesting narrative techniques as well as special effects, some created in the camera, to produce ghostly illusions and paranormal activity. In 1961, the society made a film for a local charity called 'No Milk Today,' which expertly showed the work of the Old People's Welfare Committee (Age Concern), known today as Age UK.
