Congregation Leaving St Mary's Church, Dumfries (c.1901)
Worshippers in their Sunday best file out of the Church.
Overview
An apparently unstoppable flood of worshippers pours down the steps of their church. Top hats and floral hats are in abundance, suggesting a well-heeled congregation. St Mary's Church, built in 1839, survives to this day and belongs to the Church of Scotland. As ever in Mitchell & Kenyon films, it's the children who show the most unembarrassed curiosity in the presence of the camera.
