Overview

Dartmoor Pony trekking is becoming a popular pursuit on Dartmoor and TV reporter Judi Spiers joins a group of riders as they go for a hack across the moor. The stable owner has witnessed an increase in demand for trekking across the moors with recent requests from girls’ schools and groups of friends pursuing leisure activities. Riding out on the moor is now highly regulated and no longer has the freedom demonstrated in this film, more of a learning by doing strategy.

Since the Environment Act of 1995 the Dartmoor National Park is managed by an Authority aimed at conservation and the regulation of activities on Dartmoor. Riding on the moor is permitted on its many bridleways and woodland trails, some existing in times gone by. Today Dartmoor has a good choice of riding stables, offering everything from the occasional hack to formal lessons and riding holidays.
