Getting Nearer! F.A. Cup 6th Round

Arsenal run out comfortable winners against Second Division Stoke City at Highbury in the quarter-final of the 1928 FA Cup.

        Non-Fiction 1928 1 mins

        Overview

These wonderfully crisp images from the Topical Budget newsreel see the Gunners and Stoke City take to the pitch at Highbury for a place in the FA Cup semi-finals. Arsenal had had a mixed season but after the ignominy of losing the 1927 final to a non-English team, Cardiff, they were determined to go one better. Although a division below Arsenal, Stoke City (in stripes) came into the quarter-final on a good run of form. A goal-mouth scramble sees Arsenal score one of their goals, giving the crowd a reason to give their hats an airing.
