Overview

In this special report on the Queen’s Silver Jubilee schoolchildren are quizzed about the monarch in Bath, Somerset. It examines how the South West is preparing to welcome the Queen on her Silver Jubilee tour in celebration of her twenty-five years on the throne. Elizabeth was born on 21 April 1926 and acceded to the throne on 6 February 1952 as Her Majesty The Queen and is also known by the regnal name of Elizabeth II. In 1967 she went on tour to St Mary's on the Isles of Scilly.

On 20 November 1947 she married Phillip who renounced his titles as a Prince in Greece and Denmark and became His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh. At her coronation she was proclaimed as Queen Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God Queen of this Realm and of Her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith but since her institution actually has 16 regnal titles depending on the realm. In Scotland the title Elizabeth II caused controversy because there had never been an Elizabeth I of Scotland. Since 2012, the year in which the Queen celebrated her Diamond Jubilee, the Royal Household is financed by a Sovereign Grant linked to the Government's revenue from the Crown Estate.
