Overview
In 1977, the 25th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation was celebrated with a series of Silver Jubilee events culminating with official βJubilee Daysβ around the Queen's Official Birthday in June. The actual coronation anniversary date of 6th February itself was celebrated in churches, but this film appears to have been made later in the year and includes shots of a Royals driving past the camera β the Queen visited Ipswich on 11th July 1977.
In 1977, to celebrate her Silver Jubilee as monarch, Prince Philip accompanied Queen Elizabeth II visiting more of the United Kingdom in a three month tour than any previous monarch β a total of 36 counties. The trip started in Glasgow on 17th May and progressed through England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Later in the year, the Royal couple embarked on a lengthy Commonwealth tour which included visits to Fiji and Tonga, New Zealand and Australia, Papua New Guinea and the West Indies. The tour concluded in Canada, where the Queen and Prince Philip were joined by their eldest son, Prince Charles.
