Overview

Long before light-weight wheelchairs and accessible public transport this film of outings arranged by the Leicester Guild of the Crippled in 1930 shows the logistics required for simple day trips. Utilising the Leicester Motor Club and even a flat-bed lorry from a local building firm the charity takes its members on outings to the homes of local benefactors at Welby, Scraptoft and Knighton. Brass bands, conjurers and dancing girls provide the entertainment.

The Leicester Guild of the Crippled continues to work with people with disabilities in Leicester under the new name of Mosaic Shaping Disability Services.
