        1948 9 mins

        Overview

The industrial landscape of Manchester provides a stunningly cinematic backdrop for this edition of the National Coal Board newsreel, Mining Review. The top story is the construction of a new mine shaft to a tunnel transporting coal to Stuart Street Power Station. Other locations featured include Nottingham, London, Bedworth and Flimby. When this was shot, Mining Review was in its second year, and had a regular team in place with Donald Alexander producing it for Data Film Productions.

This government film is a public record, preserved and presented by the BFI National Archive on behalf of The National Archives, home to more than 1,000 years of British history.
