Morgan's Wall

Murals around London, notably Morgan's Wall in Battersea, painted by local artists.

Documentary 1978 51 mins

Overview

This critical yet optimistic documentary looks at community murals painted around London, from the Westway flyover to West Hampstead, in the process highlighting the problems of urban decay and gentrification. Artist Brian Barnes oversees the creation of a huge mural on the wall of the Morgan Crucible Company in Battersea, with contributions from local people as both artists and subjects.

The Morgan's Wall mural was controversially destroyed in 1979, the year after this film was made, when the Morgan Crucible Company demolished the wall on which it was painted.
