        Overview

Former Labour leader and then Home Secretary JR Clynes is the guest of honour at the Met And City Police Orphanage’s prize day in Twickenham. The children –dependant offspring of deceased policeman – perform acrobatic displays at the home’s annual highlight. The orphanage ran from 1870-1937, and was at this time located in Wellesley House, Hampton Road on a 15-acre site that included a pool, cinema and gym. Some 2,807 children passed through its doors over the years.
