        Overview

For a number of years, the Ministry of Health had been put under pressure from disability campaigners who felt that the Invalid Carriage, the Invacar, with its familiar ice-blue colouring, was not fit for the road. Then, in 1976, the government announced that all Invacars loaned and leased by the government to disabled drivers, would be recalled. However, some drivers were not at all happy. Alf Morris, Minister for the Disabled, explains why the car is to be phased out.
