Overview

Norwich man Brian Cheesman enjoyed spending his free time with his 8mm camera filming his native East Anglia. In this 1959 reel, Cheesman’s β€œrambles” begin in Aldeburgh, moving northward up and along the Suffolk coastline and continuing on to Norfolk. Here features all the familiar landmarks; Aldeburgh's Moot Hall, Thorpeness’ "House in the Clouds", Southwold’s Lighthouse, Paston Mill, and Happisburgh Lighthouse, before filming turns inland to the Norfolk Broads.

Cine enthusiast Brian Cheesman lived with his mother and father on Sewell Road in Norwich, until their deaths (f. 1959, m. 1993). He never married, or had any children, neither did he have any siblings. He was a regular in the congregation of the nearby Christ Church at the bottom of Constitution Hill, and was employed by Norwich Union Insurance throughout his entire working life. In his spare time, he enjoyed exploring his native East Anglia, or travelling overseas with friends from work or church, and capturing these day trips on 8mm film.
