        Ranchi and Patna

Amateur footage around Bihar and what is now Jharkhand in east India

Amateur film 1929 13 mins Silent

        Overview

This amateur film shows Sir Hugh Stephenson, Governor of Bihar, and local scenes around Bihar (including what is now Jharkhand) in eastern India. Between scenes following Sir Hugh and other officials at work and leisure (including picnicking, swimming and, apparently, hunting) are images of local scenery and architecture, mounted lancers and what appears to be an archery contest.

Brigadier E.J. Montgomery, who shot this film, was in the Highland Light Infantry, and was also stationed in Bihar and Orissa where he was on the staff of the Governor from 1928-31.
