Spliffs, Joints and Pot

A beat musician shoots up on camera in this straight-talking 1965 film about recreational drug use.

Overview

The singer in a beat group breaks off mid song to inject himself with drugs in this straight-talking film investigating the recreational use of narcotics. A Chelsea chemist and a drug pusher's girlfriend present divergent views on the topic, before we bear witness to an "actual pot session" where four articulate young smokers talk about taking drugs.

This strange and compelling short film - predominantly documentary, but with moments of apparent drama - must have seemed refreshingly even-handed in its approach to the contentious issue of recreational drug use in the 1960s.
