The Changing Face of Newham
A tour of the long lost stately homes and mansions of Newham, and the stories of notable occupants alongside the recent developments of 1986.

Overview
Hours of historical research have gone into this short film made by an ex-councillor and local filmmaker. Fascinating footage of contemporary streets of 1986 Newham, including industry and shopping areas, is contrasted with illustrations and photographs of the fine houses (including the so-called 'Anne Boleyn Castle') that once occupied those very spaces. Some buildings have been renovated and stand to this day, but most have sadly been lost forever.
This film is from the collection of Newham Local History Resource Centre, a member of the London's Screen Archives Network.
