Overview

There are many stages in the production of fur felt hats, as can be seen in this detailed look at the work of Jackson's hat manufacturers of Stockport. In the hot and steamy workshop, men clean, shape and shrink the heaps of rabbit fur, while women workers prepare the satin linings and trimmings. Finally, the hats are ready to be polished, packed, and dispatched to Jackson's outlets across the UK.
