The East Anglian Film Archive, the first and largest Regional Film Archive in England, was established in 1976. Since 1984, EAFA has been owned and operated by the University of East Anglia, Norwich (UEA), to support research and work to preserve our moving image heritage. More than 250 hours are freely available online as examples of the wide range of film which attracts interest the world over.

Tower Bridge (akaThames River Scenes)
The Thames was alive with vessels of all shapes and sizes, testimony to the success of London as a busy Port, handling cargo and passenger ferries from around the world.

Overview
Our river travelogue takes us under Tower Bridge as cranes at bustling docksides line the river. We sail past famous landmarks and the new landing stage at Tilbury Docks, dodging the mini armadas of motor boats, steamers, sailing boats, cruise ships and the Navy, we stop off at Canvey Island. Back on water, as the river flows out towards Essex we take a detour up Hadleigh Ray to the Hoy Pub at Benfleet before landing at Southend Pier and heading to town on the Pier's own train.
The sight of the USS Raleigh and new landing stage at Tilbury Docks would date these scenes as between late 1928 and September 1929 when the US cruiser was said to be touring European ports.
