Overview

There is a place in Newport’s victory parade for every organisation that contributed to the successful war effort so as well as the armed forces there are representatives from e.g. the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade, the WVS [Women’s Voluntary Service], the Post Office and local industries – Lysaghts (i.e. The Orb Steelworks), Northern Aluminium and New Crown Forgings. The streets are chock-a-block, the city’s substantial buildings bedecked with flags.
