Overview

This interesting compilation of military parades in Sheffield from 1942-1947, consisting of British men, women, and Indian soldiers, displays the significant service that both genders and other nationalities brought to the war effort. Crowds of citizens, royalty, and other dignitaries show their respect for the service and sacrifice of all parts of the British Armed Forces during the war.

A record 2.5 million men volunteered in Indian to serve in the British Indian Army during the Second World War. They fought alongside allied forces in Asia, Africa, and Europe. British control over India ceased shortly after the war when India achieved independence from Britain in 1947.
