βFetch the coal, dearβ Gwen asks her husband, Bert. His pal Joe is never one to miss an opportunity to decry the nationalisation policy of the Labour government and spots his chance when Bert is on his way to fill the coal bucket.
This is one of a series of Conservative Party films denouncing the nationalisation policy of the Labour government. βNationalisation? National frustrationβ is a recurring line in the films, along with βSack the Socialists! And set the people free.β The coal industry had been nationalised in 1947 with the establishment of the National Coal Board.
