Women Farm Workers

These Land Girls are firm friends - and just as good at farm work as the men they replaced during WWI

1918 1 mins Silent

Overview

Despite the thick mud, women prove themselves just as capable as their male counterparts when it comes to taking care of farm animals. It's a case of strength in numbers as they work together to herd the cows and feed the young animals. This film, intended to recruit more members of the Women's Land Army, paints farm life as sociable and fun, with many hands making light work, and still time to share a joke between jobs.

The Women's Land Army was founded in 1915 to make up for the agricultural labour lost when men were sent to the front.
