        Greenland Rymill 1933

Film directed by John R. Rymill showing team members with their dog sledges during the 'East Greenland Expedition 1932-33'.

        Documentary 1933 7 mins Silent

        Overview

This film consists almost entirely of members of the expedition travelling on, or with, their dog sledges, hauling stores across the snow. The 'East Greenland Expedition 1932-33' was planned as a continuation of the 'British Arctic Air Route Expedition 1930-1', but was scaled down after tragedy struck. There were just four members:- Gino Watkins, John R. Rymill, Frederick Chapman and Quintin Riley.

It was on this expedition on 20th August 1932 that arctic explorer, Henry George β€˜Gino’ Watkins, disappeared. His upturned, empty kayak was discovered by team members, but his body was never found. John R. Rymill took over as expedition leader after his death.
