        Music Man

Music lesson daydreams turn nightmares in this European influenced Technicolor cartoon

Animation & Artists Moving Image 1938 6 mins

        Overview

Before Jack and Jill went up the hill, they apparently had to wait until Jack’s music lesson was over. Jack’s daydreams turn into a Technicolor fantasy, but his teacher seeps into his reverie turning things nightmarish. Though produced by British Animated Films it was very much reliant on European talent. The Hungarian John Halas (until then Janos Halasz) would go on to set up Britain’s biggest animation studio Halas & Batchelor with Joy Batchelor, whom he met as an animator on this film.

The script writer Imre Hadju was also Hungarian and would go on to be an important figure in French animation under his adopted name Jean Image.
