        On the Isle of Anglesey

Intriguing scenes of a centuries-old hunting tradition at Beaumaris, Anglesey.

        Non-Fiction 1929 2 mins Silent

        Overview

These slightly perplexing scenes record a centuries-old hunting tradition, long-since dissolved. The unedited footage is production material for a Topical Budget newsreel, presenting snatches of horses and dogs in the field, riders processing through a lane, a brass band on the seafront and an official ceremony. Most intriguing are the scenes of hot pennies being tossed to the villagers - a historic local custom.

Formed in 1757, The Anglesey Hunt was the second-oldest fox hunting association in Wales and one of the oldest in Britain.
