Overview
This stirring tale of love, music and coalmining in Abergwynfi, South Wales was beautifully shot by Joe Jago. Director Jill Craigie's only feature film is set against a backdrop of the sweeping changes in the coal industry which followed nationalisation in 1946. The powerful story overcomes a few wobbly moments in the leading actors' performances to create a resonant hymn to a lost era of British working class history.
