Love on the Dole
Deborah Kerr gives an impassioned turn as a woman who sells herself in order to save her family from poverty in Salford.
Director: John Baxter
Overview
Deborah Kerr gives an impassioned performance as a young woman who sells herself in order to save her family from poverty in 1930s Salford.
The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) banned the filming of Walter Greenwoodβs novel as it showed the labouring classes in revolt. However, the outbreak of WWII changed the national mood and the film became a propaganda tool to convince working men of their importance to the countryβs war effort.
