Overview
Inter-titles on this film are presented either in words or via shots of hands using sign language. Members of the Cardiff Deaf Club (a branch of what was then known as the British Deaf and Dumb Association) take a trip to Weston-Super-Mare by steamer in August 1935, visit Cardiff’s Gas Works, and travel to the Elan Valley on Whit Monday 1936, stopping off at Brecon and Builth Wells. Howard Gardens, in Cardiff, provide sporting activities - tennis and bowls.
The British Deaf and Dumb Association (later the British Deaf Association) was a national body responsible for organising sports, holidays etc. in liaison with local, branch clubs. Many of the members of the Cardiff Deaf Club (as it was known) were also associated with the Glamorgan and Monmouthshire Mission to the Adult Deaf and Dumb (President: Sir Clifford Cory, Bart., colliery owner) which worked, often as an agency for councils, to provide Christian-based care/services for the Deaf, its headquarters at 25 Windsor Place as seen in the film.
