Overview
Extensive footage of the 1948 show season, in black and white and colour, shot by Reginald George Iles, a founder member of the South Wales and Monmouthshire Agricultural and Horse Shows Association. Mr Iles regularly showed his films at the Park Hotel, Cardiff, and in associated localities. He has captured all aspects of the shows, from jockeys with their saddles at the weigh-in to a sack race with horses and a competition to erect fencing poles.
The seasonβs shows: 10/4: The Glamorgan and Pentyrch Hunts Point-to-Point Races and Adjacent Hunts Race, Flemingston, St. Athan. 5/6: Llanelli Tradesmen's Agricultural Show. 26/6: Abertillery Horse Show Association. 24/7: Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen and District Agricultural and Horticultural Society. 29/7: Tredegar Farmers' Hunt Agricultural Show and Gymkhana. 31/7: Pontypridd and District Agricultural and Horse Show. 2/8: Rumney Horse Show, Gymkhana and Fete. 5/8: Port Talbot and District Agricultural Show. 14/8: Morriston Agricultural and Horticultural Show Society, plus Winners of the Glamorgan Farmers' "Merit" Trophies (shots of Class 1 winnerβs farm).
