Camwell Personal Film no. 129: Shropshire and Montgomeryshire Railway

Stephenson Locomotive Society members visit the former Colonel Stephen’s railway for a Last Day special.

Amateur film 1962 3 mins Silent

Overview

It’s the last day for the Shropshire and Montgomeryshire Light Railway. Through the lens of renowned railway enthusiast William Arthur β€˜Cam’ Camwell, this film joins members of the Stephenson Locomotive Society (Midlands Area Branch) who squeeze into the small carriages for their trip on 20 March 1960. They even hang off every inch of the brake van to make sure they have a chance to traverse the former Colonel Stephen’s branch. Ministry of Defence Austerity saddle tank No.193 traverses the line - and still survives today in preservation.
