Scenes at Egremont Ferry (1901)

Edwardian tourists and businessmen hurry off the ferry and down the long pier at Egremont on the River Mersey.

Non-Fiction 1901 2 mins Silent

Overview

The launch of the Egremont ferry made strolling along the promenade there a popular day trip for Merseysiders. It offered panoramic views of Liverpool's skyline, a stretch of sea-shore and access to the attractions of New Brighton. Industrial expansion on the east side of the Wirral during the late 19th century also brought employment and led to greater urbanisation.

The Egremont Pier was dismantled in 1948 after a coaster collided with it.
