Overview

Captain Peckett's unique film records a Saturday afternoon's cricket and post-match fun at Cuckfield Park on the 27th July 1929. Men in flannels take their turn on the pitch while women and children watch from the sidelines. After the main match we see an impromptu game where everyone, including women and children dressed in fashions of the period, take their turn either batting, bowling or fielding. We end with an excitable terrier doing its delightful party-piece.

Captain Peckett served in the 2nd Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment and was, at some time in the 1920s or 1930s, posted to Kashmir and Karachi in pre-independence India. Many of his films from this period are now stored at Screen Archive South East.
