Overview
L. S. Lowry's paintings are both distinctive and memorable. Popularly known for "matchstick men" in grim northern vistas, he was actually a skilled draughtsman, fully trained in classical artistic techniques. In this fascinating film, Lowry talks about his art and his desire "to put the industrial scene on the map". He succeeded, though the world that inspired him has now largely disappeared.
