Overview

The sheep dog trials near Llangorse Lake, Brecon, close this reel but it opens with haymaking and adorable collie pups at Shirlheath Farm, near Kingsland, Herefordshire, farmed by John Edward James (a sheep dog trials champion), 1940-1995. John's daughter, Gwyneth, celebrates her 8th birthday in delightful style with tea in a barn. The film-maker, John's brother, involved in thermo-nuclear research at Harwell, includes shots of his new bungalow at Rhayader.

Trevor Evans James, related to the farming familes of Glanhirin and Bodtalog in the Cwmdauddwr Valley, and Tyllwyd in the Upper Ystwyth Valley, records the annual competition organised by the South Wales Sheep Dog Trials Association and includes shots of a number of champions: John James, his brother - English National Champion c.1968, Fred Lloyd (Hundred House, Powys – International Champion), Eirwen Daniels (Ystradgynlais – Welsh and International Champion), Bill Thomas (Brynmawr – Welsh National Champion).
