Overview

A head for heights is required as we gaze down from the top of Kilroot Power Station. At its pinnacle height of 198 metres, the station is one of the tallest buildings in the UK. Looking down from the smoke-wreathed platform, the camera captures stunning views of the surrounding countryside, be it the cars in the parking lot which appear shrunk to dinky toy proportions, or the sinuous outline of Belfast Lough.

Situated near Carrickfergus, Kilroot Power Station is a coal, oil and biomass power station and produces one-third of Northern Ireland's electricity. This film was shot by amateur filmmaker Sam Bell.
