A War
A Danish soldier has to defend himself against accusations of war crimes, in the Oscar-nominated drama from the makers of A Hijacking.
Director: Tobias Lindholm
Overview
Danish military commander Pedersen (Pilou Asbaek) makes a tough decision on an Afghan battlefield, and then has to defend himself against accusations of war crimes upon returning home. Nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2016 Academy Awards, this sensitive and intelligent drama from the makers of A Hijacking approaches the Afghanistan war in entirety, looking as its effects on the whole of Danish society.
Devoting as much of its attention to the struggles of Pedersen’s wife back home as it does on combat scenes, A War looks at how the advent of war affects the moral judgement of everyone touched by the conflict, not just those serving on the frontline.
