Chuck Chuck Baby
A chicken factory worker rekindles a childhood romance in this joyous musical-drama set in North Wales.
Director: Janis Pugh
Overview
Helen (Louise Brealey) lives with her ex-husband, his 20-year-old girlfriend, their new baby - and his dying mother Gwen. Her life is a grind toiling in the local chicken factory in service of the clock. However, Helen's zest for life returns with the reappearance of Joanne (Annabel Scholey), her teenage crush. But as they rekindle their friendship and start to fall in love, Joanne feels haunted by darker recollections of her past in their claustrophobic hometown in North Wales. Janis Pughβs debut feature won two 2024 Bafta Cymru awards: Breakthrough and Feature/TV film.
With a terrific central performance from Louise Brealey (Brian and Charles), writer-director Janis Pughβs feature debut is a heartwarming tale of female friendship, love and loss, with beats of brilliantly observed humour and spontaneous musical numbers. Chuck Chuck Baby was made with the support of the BFI, awarding National Lottery funding.
