Futuro Beach
A tragic event brings together a Brazilian lifeguard and a German tourist in Karim Aïnouz’s hypnotic melodrama.
Director: Karim Aïnouz
Overview
A lifeguard at Brazil’s Futuro Beach, Donato, rescues a German tourist, Konrad, and the pair find solace in each other’s company. Their attraction soon evolves into something more serious and Donato decides to follow Konrad back to Germany, only for his past in Brazil to come back and haunt him.
Juxtaposing the fiery expanses of the Brazilian coastline with the wintry cityscapes of industrial Berlin, acclaimed filmmaker Karim Aïnouz’s understated melodrama is a quietly hypnotic piece of work, rich in atmosphere and a passionate sense of longing.
