Director Julian Pölsler eschews any examination of the supernatural implications of the story, focusing instead on the psychological effects and spiritual journey that his unnamed castaway undergoes.
Martina Gedeck, best known for her performance in the Academy Award-winning film The Lives of Others, excels in a complex and demanding lead role, and the result is a highly original exploration of solitude and survival.
