Das Boot
Devastatingly powerful, tense and claustrophobic war drama about the final mission of a German U-boat, from heroic start to tragic end.
Director: Wolfgang Petersen
Overview
Assigned to sink Allied war ships, German submarine U-96 departs France and heads to sea. Joining the mission is Lt. Werner, a journalist who's been assigned to the crew. Spotted by the enemy, U-96 becomes involved in a desperate game of cat and mouse, as the young submariners attempt to accomplish an impossible mission.
Nominated for six Academy Awards, including best director for Wolfgang Petersen, a BAFTA, and Best Foreign Film at the 1982 Golden Globe Awards, it’s considered to be one of the most authentic, tense and claustrophobic anti-war film.
