Kelly + Victor 18 rating

In modern Liverpool, a couple meet and begin a transgressive, sexually charged affair set against a background of crime and encroaching danger.

Drama 2013 90 mins

Director: Kieran Evans

Overview

Kelly and Victor meet in a Liverpool nightclub and soon begin a passionate, highly charged and sexually adventurous affair. As the increasingly transgressive nature of their relationship develops, it seemingly takes influence from the illicit and dangerous world around them, from their drug dealing and dominatrix friends to Kelly’s abusive ex-boyfriend.

Described by Sight and Sound magazine as a rightful heir to the explicit Japanese classic In the Realm of the Senses, director Kieran Evans impressively conveys Liverpool as a city inhabiting both urban disintegration and a suppressed natural beauty. Featuring a striking soundtrack, befitting Evans’ background in music films (Saint Etienne’s Finisterre), Kelly + Victor is also enriched by brave and brilliant performances from leads Antonia Campbell-Hughes and Julian Morris. The film made its World Premiere at the 2012 BFI London Film Festival.
