Overview
Chantal Akerman’s debut is an incendiary critique of domesticity and conformity, the title of which translates as Blow up My Town. Playing a Chaplinesque young woman, Akerman shuts herself away in a small apartment kitchen where she goes about various domestic chores such as cleaning, mopping and polishing her shoes in an increasingly erratic fashion, before descending into mania and committing suicide on an open gas hob.
