Vesper
In a desolate post-apocalyptic future, a young teenage survivor has to avoid scrutiny from her uncle (a menacing Eddie Marsan) and the ruthless authorities pursuing her in this dark and dangerous fairytale.
Director: Kristina Buozyte and Bruno Samper
Overview
Set in a desolate post-apocalyptic future known as ‘The New Dark Ages’, teenager Vesper lives with her bedridden father and endures the daily grind of survival whilst also nurturing her laboratory of tentacled plants and glittering seeds. When she discovers an injured stranger lying unconscious in the forest, she takes her home to nurse her back to recovery but soon attracts the attention of her menacing uncle Jonas (Eddie Marsan) and, worse, those of the authorities living behind their cloistered Citadel walls.
Writer-directors and regular collaborators Kristina Buozyte and Bruno Samper reunite for this dystopian fairytale, a decade after Vanishing Waves delighted festival audiences. Whilst Vesper might lack the budget of sci-fi blockbusters, the visual effects immerse you within a magical, decaying landscape of creeping vines and shimmering vegetation, led by a quick-witted teenager determined to break the rules.
