4th Round of the Cup
Goals from the 1923 FA Cup 4th round, featuring QPR v Sheffield Utd, Charlton Athletic v Bolton Wanderers & Tottenham Hotspur v Derby County.
Overview
FA cup fever was mounting in March 1923 as the eight remaining clubs fought for a place in the first final to be held at the new Empire Stadium, Wembley. This evocative newsreel captures action from three of the four 4th round matches, with goals from QPR v Sheffield United, Charlton Athletic v Bolton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur v Derby County.
Bolton, one of the game's giants at the time, would eventually take home the trophy after defeating West Ham 2-0 - their first of three cup triumphs in the 20s. It was some compensation for Lancashire side's disappointing league performance in 1922-23, when they finished in 13th place in the first division.
