Football
Clement Freud explores the importance of football to the people of Liverpool - be they backing Liverpool or Everton in the FA Cup.
Overview
"Football is not a matter of life and death... it's much more important than that." It's impossible not to think of those words by Bill Shankly when watching Clement Freud's paean to Liverpudlian footballing culture. Freud's inimitable hangdog, deadpan delivery is the perfect foil for the passion he encounters on both sides of the Liverpool divide in the days leading up to the Everton and Liverpool FA Cup clash at Goodison Park. Young and old, fans and players, and team managers - Harry Catterick and Shankly himself - bear testament to the huge importance of football to this city.
