Beer: VJ Day
Spontaneous celebrations on the streets of Worcester as the end of the Second World War is declared.

Overview
These joyous scenes in Worcester were filmed on 15 August, 1945 by local man John Beer. With film stock hard to come by in 1945 relatively few amateur film-makers captured the celebrations at the end of the war. These brief views of the VJ Day celebrations in the city give a flavour to the ways in which that momentous day was marked across the country. The headline in the Worcester News and Times, 'World at Peace Once More' puts these events into the wider context that they deserve.
