Football Season: Fulham V. Bury

After relegation from the Football League Division One the previous season, Bury FC turn up at Craven Cottage for their first ever meeting with Fulham.

Non-Fiction 1912 1 mins Silent

Overview

Bury's 3-1 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage was the result of the first ever meeting between these two long-established football clubs, captured in this Topical Budget newsreel. Fulham FC (probably in the dark shirts) had had a slow rise through the Southern leagues and were only promoted to Division Two in 1907. Bury, on the other hand, had been a regular in Division One and had only been relegated the previous season.

It's difficult to be sure of which teams is which. Although Fulham were playing in white shirts at the time, so were Bury, with both teams in dark shorts and dark socks with hoops. Today the away team would change shirts but before 1921 it was up to the home team to change. So, it seems likely that Fulham are in their change kit here.
