Fourth round English Cup Newcastle United V Derby County March 11 1911
On a glorious spring day, a packed St James' Park welcomes Derby County for an FA Cup quarter-final against home side, and favourites, Newcastle.
Overview
After success in the FA Cup quarter-final, Derby County faced the daunting task of an away trip to St James' Park. A decidedly larger than capacity crowd watched Derby and Newcastle, the current FA Cup holders, take to the pitch on a glorious spring day. The source of this footage has yet to be identified, but it may well be an early newsreel. Most newsreel companies favoured a position by one of the goals, though here the camera is lined up by the half-way line, and manages to capture the exciting ebb and flow of the game - including one of the goals! Newcastle won 4-0.
The film may have been shot by the Gaumont Graphic newsreel company, who apparently covered this match.
